Lest we forget . . .

Pat O'Leary

Sadly we have to announce the passing of one of the great characters of our club. Although Pat has not been able to bowl outdoors for quite a few years now, he was always a Priory man through and through. His sense of humour was appreciated by us all and his humour was always a kindly humour with no hint of malice - but plenty of Irish mischief!!

Pat first joined Priory in 1998 and although not winning the big trophies he was a more than competent bowler and he is on our winner boards for Handicap Pairs: 2000, 2 Wood Triples 2005 and Triples league 1999.

Pat was a worker and a very practical man and could always be relied upon to help out with club development projects. In later years, he maintained his interest in bowling and was a regular visitor to Worthing Indoor Bowls Club where his character shone through as much as it did at Priory.

  RIP Pat

Ivan 'John' Hobbs

Sadly John passed away at the end of May. He will be missed by all his friends at Tarring Priory. He joined our club in 2014 after spending many years at Steyning Bowls Club, John loved the camaraderie of bowls and played as much as he could, not just for Priory but at County and Vice Patron level too.

When not bowling John enjoyed the great outdoors and adding to his sun kissed countenance. He walked miles everyday with his beloved dog, and would think nothing of a ten mile stroll. He was also proud of their joint progress through canine agility classes.

Of course John was no mean bowler and keenly enjoyed the competitive side of bowls. He was the winner of the Veterans Cup at Tarring for three consecutive years. All round, John was a really good bloke, the sort of man you wanted on your team! RIP John

 Ted King

1915 - 2018

Farewell to our oldest member

Ted King at the grand old age of 102 has taken his final bowl.

Sadly he died just a month before his 103rd birthday.

Ted only took up bowls at the age of 75 and only then after he felt that tennis was no longer for him. In fact Ted had been a sportsman all his life and even a pro footballer with Wolverhampton Wanderers in his youth.

RIP Ted
